Question: Uploading files to your web hosting account using FileZilla
This question relates to the following categories: Business Hosting, Web Hosting, Windows Hosting
Answer:
The below article provides step-by-step instructions on how to upload files via FTP to your Redalto web hosting account using the FileZilla FTP client.
Step 1. Open FileZilla and enter your account details :
FTP host: ftp.yourdomain (eg, ftp.redalto.com or ftp.homepagecentre.com)
Username and password: These were provided in you 'welcome email'
Host directory: This is your website root directory. The location of this depends on which
hosting package you've ordered (refer to your 'welcome email')
> Business Hosting customers use: public/www/
> Windows Hosting customers use: wwwroot/
> Budget Hosting customers use: public_html/www/
Step 2. Define the Source and Destination of your file transfer.
FileZilla provides a 2 pane view. The left hand pane is a file/directory listing within your computer, the right hand pane displays the directories and files within your web hosting account . First, locate the file you want to upload from your computer (left hand pane). Now, in the right hand pane locate the directory (folder) where you want to upload your file to. If you are uploading your website (rather than individual files to share or link to) your website files MUST located in the root of the 'host directory' listed in step 1 above. Otherwise, you can define or create any sub-directory to transfer your file to. Once you have located the destination where you want to transfer your file to, simply select the file in the left pane (your computer) and drag it to the right hand pane (your hosting account).
Step 3. Confirm File Transfer Progress
Once you've dropped and dragged the the file from your computer to your hosting account, you will now see a progress bar appear in the bottom panel. This displays the status of your upload. When the upload is complete, the progress bar will dissappear and a message will display that the transfer is 100% complete. Once this has been confirmed, your file is viewable from your website within the directory you have placed it.
It's always wise to double check from your browser that the file is viewable at the correct address before communicating the URL to your customers.
